Graphing Proportional Relationships - Lesson 5

Hello Girls and Boys,
We are still working on Proportional Reasoning, but rather than looking at tables and seeing if two ratios are proportional(equivalent) we are looking at graphing them.  So with graphing, comes a whole host of vocabulary terms that are related to graphs.  Such as coordinate plane, quadrants, ordered pair, x and y coordinates, x and y axis, and origin.  All these can be more easily plotted on a graph rather than defined.  So go to page 45 in your textbook, and copy the graph and labels (vocabulary terms) in your ribbon book.  We will be going over these terms in class, so this will help also.  But, let's get back to determining if a ratio is proportional or not proportional.  Lesson 4 was about looking at charts and finding out if the ratios were proportional - equivalent fractions.  This lesson, is plotting a graph and checking if the line is proportional or not.  HINT- if the line travels through the origin and is a straight line, then it is indeed proportional.  If it is a straight line but does not pass through the origin, it is not proportional.  Hang on for another thrilling ride!
Well, Elijah, you did a fine job with these pictures- how sweet.

Homework:
Read the blog, watch the videos, take notes in graphic organizer and complete your vocabulary graph in your ribbon book for lesson 5- GRAPHING PROPORTIONS.
